Netflix has surprised its users this week with two pieces of news. In the first, company spokesmen denied the possibility that the platform will release any functionality for the spatial audio function of the AirPods, soon. While the second would benefit all users, the majority prone, to ever run out of data
The new functionality called “Downloads for you” which is designed to automatically download recommended TV shows or movies based on your Netflix watch history and personal tastes. The update is a continuation of Netflix’s smart download feature that the brand introduced three years ago.
How does “Downloads for you” work on Netflix
Basically “Downloads for you” has been designed so that users always have the possibility of enjoying available content, in case of losing internet connection.
Subscription requires just a few steps:
- Open the Netflix app on your device and navigate to the Downloads tab. Here, you will find the option “Downloads for you” and you must activate it.
- Once this is done, you can set a limit on the amount of content that can be downloaded. The limit can be set to 1GB, 3GB, or 5GB.
- Click on “Activate”.
The more space you allow, the more recommendations will be downloaded offline for later viewing. Like smart downloads, the feature will only download titles when you are on a Wi-Fi network, so there is no risk of spending your mobile data plan unknowingly.
With the new feature, Netflix users will always have something to watch in their offline library, preventing them from getting bored when traveling or in other situations. It is available on Android devices starting today, but the company plans to test the feature on iOS soon as well.
