Simu Liu has just risen to international fame thanks to the fact that he was the protagonist of Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings – 95%. Being in a Marvel movie often has that effect on an actor’s career. The fact that the film has been a success despite the pandemic has also helped.

The point is that perhaps the fame could not last long because the actor has become the subject of debate on social networks because old posts of his on Reddit came to light under the username / u / nippedinthebud commenting on a subreddit called aznidentity, which is currently known to be a community of racist and incel users. The actor deleted the account a while ago, but it is on file on Reddit and he himself has previously admitted that it was his.
It all came out because several users have shared decontextualized screenshots of comments he made on Reddit (via CBR). For instance:
/ u / nippedinthebud appears to be Simu Liu’s archived Reddit account. It shows him commenting on a racist and incel subreddit among other things.

As noted, the Twitter user @LPCantLose, some of these screenshots are out of context and some of the things that have been said are not real. As he pointed out, if you go to his account files you will not find incel comments, the point is that there are macho, sexist and racist comments that are real. Before showing you this. First, the following must be clarified:
First of all, ‘Simu posted on incel subreddits.’ A) This subreddit was not an incel subreddit in 2016. It was a subreddit for Asians. Not for Asian men. Asians and period. B) Simu found this post because… it’s about Kim’s Convenience. His four comments were made in the same post.

Now we are going to leave you a couple of examples of real things that he said Simu liu with the questions that contextualize them. First look at this macho comment, where although he admitted that it is wrong, he also said that it is something he does:
What are some ‘cretin’ things that you normally do or say? I am completely in favor of gender equality, however girls are not as good as boys at sports and every time I play volleyball with a girl on the team I get frustrated. Sometimes I say things.
The other thing he said is a comment in which he compared homosexuals to pedophiles in the wake of research he did on pedophilia for a role:
From a biological point of view [la pedofilia] it’s no different than being gay. It is a small mutation in the genome that defines our sexual preferences.
In another post he was asked what was something that bothered him that people did and what he answered were things that describe the vision of the Western cultural imaginary of what a Middle Eastern terrorist is:
Thinking it’s okay to put bombs on themselves and go to school. Killing mothers and trying to brainwash their children into fighting like soldiers. Thinking that women shouldn’t show their faces in public.
I know that at first glance this might not seem problematic for some people, but the point is that by not using the word terrorists and using images that are inserted in Islamophobic speeches, it can easily be interpreted as that you are generalizing about people of that religion and that part of the world. Hence, it is racist.
What did you answer Simu liu? He shared a twitter thread from 2019 in which he warned that in the past he was immature and made inappropriate comments with which he no longer agrees and that surely people would find at some point … He was right.
Oh great this is here.
Oh cool this is here

Warning: If you search the past long enough, I am sure that you will find a more immature version of me that was carried away by anger and hatred. That doesn’t make me a hypocrite; makes me a human being. Mindsets evolve. We change as we grow. And I want us all to grow up in the right way.
Just a reminder that I do not ever EVER advocate for anything other than positivity. Positive cultural pride, positive iterations of Asian masculinity and femininity – that means WE DON’T PUT EACH OTHER DOWN.
Direct your frustration at the system that did this to ALL of us.
