The populations of more than 50 countries or territories are called this Monday by their authorities to remain confined to their homes to fight against the meteoric spread of covid-19.

(.) – At least 34 countries or territories have established compulsory containment of their population, measures which affect more than 659 million people. This is particularly the case in France, Italy, Argentina, California, Iraq and Rwanda. Greece is the latest country to join this list on Monday morning. Colombia and New Zealand will be added on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

In most of these territories, it is still possible to leave your home to work, buy basic necessities or take care of yourself. At least four countries (more than 228 million people), including Iran, Germany and the United Kingdom, have called on their populations to stay at home, to limit travel and contacts as much as possible, without however matching these recommendations coercive measures.

Reported for the first time by the WHO on December 31, 2019, the 2019-nCoV virus has spread throughout the world in a few weeks. China, the center of the epidemic, is particularly affected.

However, these calls have only a limited effect, especially in the United Kingdom where the government raised its tone Sunday after a weekend when the parks and seashores were full.

At least 10 countries or territories (over 117 million people) have curfews in place, prohibiting evening and overnight travel. This is particularly the case in Burkina Faso, Chile, Manila (Philippines), Serbia or Mauritania. In Saudi Arabia, the curfew takes effect this Monday evening.

Finally, some countries have quarantined their main cities, with prohibitions on entering and leaving them. This is the case of the 27 largest cities in Bulgaria, Almaty and Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan, and Baku in Azerbaijan. These cities have nearly 10 million inhabitants.
