Pierre Cherpin suffered a terrible accident in the special of Dakar, crashing his motorcycle at kilometer 178 and losing consciousness. The pilot was transferred to a Sakaka hospital where he is in an induced coma and is fighting for his life.
As a result of the accident, the Frenchman suffered a head trauma important and had to be operated on urgently going through the operating room. At first he was treated by a neurosurgeon in order to reduce a subdural hematoma, but also suffers a pneumothorax and have one broken rib, which make the recovery of the pilot, who had a lot of experience in the race, even more complicated.
In the 2021 edition of the Dakar, Pierre Cherpin was competing in the ‘Original’ category (without assistance), which is the toughest on the Dakar. It is his fourth participation in the raid, after 2009, 2012 and 2015, of which he finished the first two but not the last due to a broken engine in his Husqvarna 450.
