Thanks to these adjustable lenses you can change the focus by just turning one or two spheres. They go from -5 to +2 in a matter of seconds.
People with presbyopia suffer to read: they must change their glasses from the usual ones to the reading ones. But a North American company designed adjustable lenses presented at CES 2021.
These glasses only need to rotate one or two spheres to achieve focus.
So-called VOY lenses have a small sphere on each leg of the lens. To adjust focus, the user just pulls the wheel away from the nose for negative power. If you want it positive, you just have to turn the sphere towards the nose.
Lens technology I GO it is based on two polycarbonate plates on each side of the glasses. These slide off each other when the wheel is adjusted. Depending on the position of the plate, the required focus is achieved.
The estimated price is $ 79, and they come in a wide range of colors, from black to white, through brown or gray.
The glasses were awarded in the Wearable category of the 2021 Innovation Award at the Consumer Electronics Show. The exhibition is being held virtually in Las Vegas, due to the pandemic.
What is presbyopia, the condition countered by VOY adjustable lenses?
Presbyopia is a condition that affects the eyes’ ability to focus on nearby objects. Because of this, people with it need different glasses for different activities.
The defect usually appears between 40 and 45 years of age. The reduction in the accommodating power of the lens causes a decrease in the ability to focus on nearby objects.
