A 40-year-old woman charged with attempted murder for allegedly driving her car toward protesters at a rally in September faces additional charges after authorities discovered she allegedly used a deadly weapon to attack two men at an earlier event in the county. from Orange, California.
Tatiana Rita Turner, a Long Beach supporter and protest organizer for Black Lives Matter, has now been charged with 13 felonies for the two attacks, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. The district attorney announced the latest charges, involving an August protest in Seal Beach, on January 20.
« We support the right to protest peacefully, but these are not peaceful protests, » Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a press release. “They are organized protests that encourage others to participate in civil disobedience and violence. Turner allegedly repeatedly struck two men on Aug. 29 with a four-foot-long metal bar as they lay on the ground in Seal Beach, after a group of protesters had already beaten them. The attack was so brutal that one of the men required staples to the head.
The charges associated with this incident are two felonies of assault with a deadly weapon, including one that caused serious bodily injury as a result of the incident.
On September 26, Turner reportedly drove her vehicle through a crowd in Yorba Linda who was in counter-protest at a “March 4 for Equality” event, one she helped organize. In the attack, Turner is accused of running over a woman’s head and back, as well as breaking a man’s leg.
For these alleged crimes, the district attorney had previously charged Turner with a felony of attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, six felony assaults with a deadly weapon, including one that caused great bodily injury, a felony of mutilation. and two felonies of the use of pepper spray by a criminal.
Turner faces a maximum sentence of seven years to life in prison plus 26 years in state prison if convicted of all charges, according to the press release. You have previous convictions for domestic violence and drug sales.
After reviewing video footage for months, five other people are facing criminal charges for the protests, according to the District Attorney’s Office, including Danielle Lindgren, the woman struck by Turner’s vehicle.
After being hospitalized for several months, Lindgren was charged with a misdemeanor charge of possession of a cane.
The other four have been beaten on charges that include carrying a cane, using tear gas on others and failing to disperse at the scene of a riot.
