A couple of days ago, Production Weekly released two very exciting news for DC Comics fans. The first is that a sequel to Joker – 91% is already in development, with Joaquin Phoenix back as the protagonist; and the second that Martin Scorsese will be involved as a producer.

Scorsese had been confirmed as the producer of Joker since it was announced in August 2017, but left the project. We don’t know if this information is completely reliable, and if it is, the success of the first film and its impact on audiences may have influenced the legendary filmmaker’s decision to join a sequel.
In Production Weekly we can also see that Todd Phillips reappears, although in the sheet shared by the medium he is attributed the role of producer and screenwriter, which would mean that he is not yet confirmed as a director, but even if he only collaborates with the script , someone else could move the film forward.
On why Scorsese left production Joker, we were able to find out in 2019 thanks to an interview with IndieWire, where the director said that it was not a good time for him, and preferred to focus on making The Irishman – 100%, Netflix original film that earned a lot of praise:

I know the movie [Guasón] very well. I know her very well. My producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff did it. I thought a lot for the past four years and decided I didn’t have time for her. It was for personal reasons that I decided not to get involved. But I know the script very well. He has a very real energy and to Joaquin, so he has a remarkable job. For me, I didn’t know if I could lead the character to become a comic book character. It becomes an abstraction.
Joker drew heavily from two Scorsese classics for its plot: Taxi Driver – 98% and The King of Comedy – 91%, and it seems that the director was very aware of his influence on the film, as he told IndieWire in early 2020 that he had seen clips and was not planning to see it, since he already knew what it was about.
When I arrive Joker received criticism related to the political environment in the United States, since some, from the first trailer, thought that it was a kind of apology for resentful white men, or more specifically, the incels (involuntary celibates), a sector of the population that, in the absence of affection from the opposite sex, fills with resentment and hatred and sometimes projects them outward, even shooting at people who have done nothing to them.

The film, however, received praise from numerous mental health experts, because it portrayed very well the conditions of the protagonist, played by Joaquin Phoenix. The actor, on the other hand, received very positive reviews even from those who weren’t very happy with the plot or direction.
Joker was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture, a year after Black Panther – 90% would make history as the first superhero movie to be nominated in that category. Many have objected, with good reason, that Joker It is not and should not be considered a superhero film, but we can not forget that its inspiration came in large part from a Batman villain.
Most DC Comics adaptations don’t follow in the footsteps of Joker; in the DC Extended Universe most of his stories are more inclined to fantasy, which is fine, but with the project of Todd Phillips Warner Bros. won the Golden Lion at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, a milestone for a comic book-inspired feature film.
So far there are only rumors about Joker 2 and Warner Bros. has not confirmed that it is true.
