Although the film is still surrounded by controversy over the decision to release it only in cinemas, the results have been quite positive both at the global box office and with specialized critics and, above all, with the public. For many, it is one of the best presentations of the UCM, especially since the protagonist is clearly one of the most powerful we’ve seen.

The film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton manages to renew several aspects of the UCM that, although successful, they already had the public tired. The villain, played by Tony Chiu Wai Leung, is presented as a complex character whose goal is one of emotional cut and not a basic ambition (war or wealth) as we usually see it. In a way, he is already as powerful as he can be, so his interest is of another kind and that gives him more realism. On the other hand, the own past of our protagonist (Simu Liu) makes the relationship with his father the axis of the story that also focuses on the idea of reaching our maximum potential.
The director’s background in family melodrama worked very well for this new installment in the franchise, which featured several cameos and laid the groundwork for future stories. At the end of Shang-chiIn the first post-credits scene, it is clear to us that our hero is now part of a much larger group, but the Marvel tradition was broken in a peculiar way and the audience could not ignore him.
In addition to its own sequels, the normal thing is that the heroes of the UCM unite to fight a greater evil, as happened with Avengers: Infinity War – 79% and Avengers: Endgame – 95%, and that is why during the credits of his films we can see the classic phrase of “[inserte aquí el nombre del héroe] To return to.” The point is that at the end of Shang-chi his name was not mentioned here, but that of his father’s association; “The Ten Rings will return.” Why this curious change?

Well, it seems that everything has to do with the future projects of Marvel that are expanding very quickly. We can no longer avoid spoilers so if you still do not see the movie we recommend you stop reading. The first post-credits scene showed us Wong (Benedict Wong) informing Shang-Chi that the power of his rings sent something like a signal to the ends of the universe. The appearance of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) indicated that the origin of these artifacts is a mystery that must be solved and the Hulk himself welcomes the team. The second scene let us see Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) as the new leader of his father’s empire, with everything and renovation of the place.
During an interview for ., Kevin Feige clarified the reasons that the famous phrase focused on the Ten Rings and not on Shang-Chi:
To be honest with you, I think the intention of the first scene makes it very clear that Shang-Chi is coming back, so we didn’t have to say it again. The end of the second scene was more about the organization itself, the Ten Rings, which seems, throughout the tape, that it was dismantled and then you find out otherwise in that scene full of spoilers.
The character of Xialing always wanted to have an empire to demonstrate his capabilities to his father, who paid more attention to his older brother, so that ending leaves open the possibilities of what can be done with so much power but in other hands. It is possible that the famous group will return for a sequel or even a spin-off to Disney + Of course, if we take the Ten Rings literally we are also looking at the artifacts that were eventually left in the possession of Shang-chi and that it seems will become an important element of Phase 4 of Marvel. The origin of the rings is never clarified in the film, but some fans already speculate that they could be part of the Eternals mythology that will hit theaters in November.
