Chip shortage could slow car production, industry says
BEIJING / FRANKFURT / SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 7 (.) – A shortage of microprocessors used in car manufacturing could disrupt auto production in China well into next year, industry sources said, with microprocessor companies saying that prices and production are being raised in response to this situation. Cars have become increasingly reliant on chips – many of them made in Europe – for all kinds of functions, from computerized engine management to better fuel economy right down to driver assistance features like emergency braking.
