Fauci says he feels ‘somewhat’ liberated with Biden

(Bloomberg) – Anthony Fauci, the United States’ chief of infectious disease control, said he feels “something” released working for President Joe Biden after Donald Trump tried to sideline him. On Thursday, Fauci, director of the Institute National Allergy and Infectious Diseases, addressed reporters from the White House meeting room as Biden’s top medical adviser. Under the Trump Administration, Fauci had been displaced by Scott Atlas, a politically conservative neuroradiologist who disparaged the wearing of masks, social distancing, and other public health precautions. “The idea that you can come up here and talk about what you know, what is the evidence, what is science and knowing what it is, letting science speak, is something of a liberating feeling, “Fauci said. Fauci acknowledged that at times he had to contradict Trump, as when the former president advocated for the use of an unproven antimalarial drug, hydroxychloroquine, to treat COVID-19. “That was really uncomfortable because it wasn’t based on scientific fact,” Fauci said. “I can tell you that I do not like, at all, being in a situation of contradiction with the president.” Original Note: Fauci Says He Feels Liberated With Biden, After Trump SideliningFor more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.comSubscribe now to stay ahead with the most trusted business news source. © 2021 Bloomberg LP
