The former king of Spain, Juan Carlos, has settled a debt of nearly 680,000 euros to the Spanish tax authorities.
The former monarch wanted to regularize his situation
Lawyer Juan Carlos, Javier Sanchez-Junco, announced in a statement on Wednesday that in order to regularize his situation, theformer king of spain discharged a tax debt of 680,000 euros.
The lawyer for the former king also insisted that: “The King Juan Carlos (…) Presented the tax authorities with a spontaneous declaration which gave rise to a tax debt, already settled, in the amount of 678,393.72 euros, including interest and penalties “. It is also indicated that the former king remains, as he always was, at the disposal of the public prosecutor for any procedure or action that the latter considers appropriate, reports 20 minutes.

Juan Carlos abdicated in June 2014
The former monarch, whose abdication in June 2014, left theSpain last August to settle in Saudi Arabia. At the time, he justified this decision by indicating that he wished to make it easier for his son and current king, Felipe VI, to exercise his functions.
According to the newspaper El Pais, this tax declaration of Juan Carlos is said to be in connection with an ongoing anti-corruption investigation into the former monarch’s use of credit cards linked to bank accounts not in his name.
