Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Tuesday January 12 that his country planned to buy 24 million doses of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V to fight Covid-19.

The Mexico is the fourth most bereaved country in the world by the Covid-19 with around 136,000 deaths. According to the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, his country could thus “soon to vaccinate 12 million people”, since the Sputnik V is administered twice.
The Mexico, counting 128 million residents, had launched on Thursday, December 24 its vaccination campaign with the American-German vaccine Pfizer / BioNTech. The country also authorized the vaccine of the Swedish-British collaboration AstraZeneca / Oxford which will be available in March.

Winter season in Mexico
As reported Le Figaro with the French Press, Tuesday January 12, Mexico recorded 14,395 contaminations and 1,314 deaths in 24 hours, reveal the health authorities. In sum, 1,556,028 cases have been recorded since the start of theepidemic and 135,682 deaths. For the epidemiologist Hugo Lopez-Gatell, the increase in cases in recent weeks was predictable due to winter.
The region of Mexico is one of the most affected by the disease. On Friday January 8, the extension of the suspension of non-essential activities, decreed on December 18, 2020, was decided. The occupancy rate of hospitals in the capital is almost 90%!
