The future of Star Wars looks promising for the next few years, as several projects in the franchise are already in development. As many fans expected, the popular series will continue to have a presence in the video game industry.
Lucasfilm Games excited fans this morning by announcing the development of a new Star Wars title. To the surprise of some, this project will not be in the hands of Electronic Arts, a company that has had the rights to the series for several years.
The new project will be made possible through a partnership with Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment, a studio best known for its work on The Division franchise.

The Division studio to make an open-world Star Wars game
Thanks to a report from Wired, we know that Massive Entertainment will be the first studio to develop a major Star Wars title following the exclusivity agreement with EA, which has been in place for approximately 8 years.
The report notes that the new project will feature open-world elements, but its development is still at a very early stage. In fact, Massive Entertainment is currently looking for staff to work on the title.
On the other hand, we know that Julian Gerighty, director of The Division 2 and The Crew, will be the creative director of the project. The game will be developed with Massive Entertainment’s Snowdrop engine.
Lucasfilm Games has not disclosed specific details about the protagonists or where in the Star Wars universe will be used to create the game. Sean Shoptaw, vice president of games and interactive experiences at Disney, said EA has been an important partner, but now there is room for other studios to work on the series.
