Susana Rodríguez, the Paralympic triathlete, gold in Tokyo, and former footballers and LaLiga ambassadors Luis García and Gaizka Mendieta have completed the short test of the relay competition that was held this morning at Casa de Campo.
Susana Rodríguez, gold in Tokyo, has swum the programmed 900 meters in the Casa de Campo lake; Luis García, formerly of FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, has taken over the 40 km single lap by bicycle; and Gaizka Mendieta, formerly of Valencia CF, has closed the competition by contesting the 10-kilometer race, on a route around the Casa de Campo Lake, passing through the Huerta de la Partida.
“I feel very happy to have been able to return to Casa de Campo, which brings back good memories, because here was my debut in a triathlon 11 years ago. And also for having been able to share this experience with Gaizka Mendieta and Luis García because I am also a very football fan, and although I am from Real Madrid, I have always followed good players like them. It is nice to participate in this type of initiative where you meet new people and you always enjoy it! & Rdquor ;, assured Susana Rodríguez who was accompanied by her guide Celso Comesaña.
Luis García explained that “when I got up at six in the morning I thought it was going to cost me much more but the truth is that I had a great time, the atmosphere is spectacular, everything that Banco Santander has set up here in the house of Countryside too, and the bike I really enjoyed. I have loved sharing moments with people I did not know and living that empathy that there is of help and sportsmanship. It has also been fortunate to share it with Mendieta, whom I know very well, and with Susana who is a true champion, impressive what I have seen her do when she got into the lake, she is a true athlete & rdquor ;.
For his part, Gaizka Mendieta said he was “super happy to have participated in this experience as an athlete and footballer. And the luxury of having been able to participate with Susana and Luis has made it more entertaining and fun. And happy to see that many people have participated because sport and life always go hand in hand & rdquor ;.
Susana Rodríguez, Luis García and Gaizka Mendieta have crossed the goal together with the satisfaction of the challenge fulfilled. The Half Madrid Triathlon has had two tests without drafting, in half and short modality, and has complied with all health safety measures, with time-trial starts of 50 participants every minute.
