In fact, as a report published on the website of Bio Bio Chile, the country has one of the largest lithium reserves in the world. Musk knows this, just as he knew it with Mexico, where he will install a Tesla plant, precisely because he has the element in the form of salts within reach.
According to La Tercera, quoted in the report, Tesla executives have already held audiences with the Government of Chile through the Foreign Ministry, the Production Development Corporation (Corfo) and the Ministry of Mining to raise the possibility of working together. .
At the meeting with Corfo, the executives indicated their interest in knowing how the American company Albemarle operates in Chile, since they would not rule out a mutual collaboration with the mining company.
Elon Musk’s interest in Latin America increases
It is no coincidence that Elon Musk has his sights set on doing business in Chile, after expanding his interests in Latin America with the announcement of building a Tesla electric car assembly plant in Mexico.
