The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth film in one of the most famous (and important) franchises in contemporary cinema, will bring news this coming Thursday. What will happen that day? The first trailer of the film starring Keanu Reeves to be released. Since the announcement of the production, a few months ago, the expectation regarding the fourth installment of The Matrix has been growing steadily.
The first trailer, which already has some images in an interactive teaser (which we discuss later), was confirmed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The company published the announcement on its YouTube profile, making use of one of the most important references within The Matrix Universe: the blue and red pills that gave meaning to Neo’s story within the production that combines action and science fiction.
The advance is sober but effective; Enough to generate even more buzz regarding what can be seen in the first trailer on The Matrix Resurrections. These advances come to just over three months before the premiere of the film, scheduled for December 22 of this year.
The Matrix Resurrections, “The Choice Is Yours”
The first advance proposed by Warner Bros. Pictures comes with several surprises. The first one, of course, is the release date of the trailer. The second is a series of images that viewers can unlock through an interactive platform. Therefore, this announcement is also accompanied by a teaser about The Matrix Resurrections.
This platform can be accessed through the portal The choice is yours. As Morpheus did with Neo at the time, the viewer is offered two options in the form of pills. One blue and one red. When you click on one or the other, a sequence of images is activated that suggest an immersion in The Matrix universe. The detail? Those images show part of the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections.
As if this dynamic were not enough, the website adapts according to the visitor’s entry time. Then, the games in relation to the narrative and this interactive experience begin when the narrator says that the rest “are tricks of the mind” or may not be the reality that is lived (and the viewer observes). Different months begin to join the succession of new images.
The dynamics becomes a bit addictive when, progressively, between one entry and another the images are updated. While a base is maintained, because it is not about sharing the entire trailer for The Matrix Resurrections now, there are a number of sequences that are incorporated over and over again.
What does the teaser show?
Immediately, the most surprising thing is the Neo’s appearance, about whom no more was known after The Matrix Revolutions. The character played by Keanu Reeves appears with long hair and, for at least part of the story, no scars on his eyes. Judging by how much it can be interpreted in this trailer, Neo will once again face ghosts from the past.
This time, that ghost could be personified in Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter), who appears in one of the images. Perhaps he is the one who plays the role of “new agent Smith” or plays another villain within the narrative of The Matrix Resurrections. It is Jonathan Groff who narrates the events when he takes the blue pill. So, from the outset, it can be guessed that his role in production will be key.
In that version of events, Neo appears to meet Trinity again. Although the trailer does not detail much more about it, when their hands part, it could be an invitation to imagine that their relationship is no longer at the point where they left it. In addition to action, explosions and images that have a powerful aesthetic value, it remains to wait until next Thursday to learn more in the first trailer of The Matrix Resurrections.
