On Sunday, September 19, there is an important appointment in the Catalan cycling calendar: the Jufré Riuprimer March, that this year reaches its eighth edition, after a year without being able to celebrate due to the Covid-19 health crisis. “This year it recovers with a smaller format and goes from spring to the end of summer “, said Josep Jufré, organizer of the March, this Wednesday at the press conference, which was held in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Santa Eulàlia de Riuprimer.
Precisely the Santa Eulàlia de Riuprimer City Council is one of the co-organizers of this year, together with the Catalan Cycling Federation and the Vic-ETB Swimming Club, of which the Jufré Cycling cycling school is part. “It does not change much in other years, because we have always been very involved in the March. It is an opportunity to make the people known and we hope it will be a success”, said the mayor, Txevi Rovira.
In this eighth edition there are already more than 300 people registered, Despite the organization trusting that after the Tierra de Remences march, that it is celebrated this weekend, enrollments will grow. The deadline to register is September 16.
The Cyclotourist March Jufré Riuprimer is the only cycling tour in Osona, which also passes through neighboring regions such as Berguedà and Lo Bages. “It is a very suitable territory for cycling, very unspoilt, which passes through small towns, it also has very attractive points such as the Pujada de la Trona, the passage through the Merlès stream, the Serra dels Degollats and the ascent from Oristà, the Dragon Kan. “These points are common for both routes, which are the same as the last two editions: the long route of 154 km and 2445 meters of unevenness; and the short route, of 111 km and 1731 meters of unevenness.
This year the organization, together with the riuprimerenc Pedala Pedala club and the monitors of the Jufré Cycling School and the Vic-ETB Swimming Club, has made an effort to guarantee, even more, the quality of the March, with more volunteers, “They are a great mainstay of the race, they get involved and without them the march would not be possible”says Jufré. The tasks of the volunteers are the provisioning stations, the links with the motorcycles, the signaling to the roundabouts, the delivery of numbers or the marking of the circuit.
The final provisioning for all participants will be food. This time the traditional eating of fideuà will be replaced by a bread with standing black pudding, a black pudding from the collective brand Morcilla de Riuprimer, promoted by the two delicatessens of Santa Eulàlia: Queviures Corretja and Carnicería and Pan Vilaró. And it is that the quality, the care of the territory and the environment is a capital aspect of the March that, among others, will give a biodegradable tank to each participant.
The press conference was also attended by Mariona Molas, a young Riuprimerenca, who is also an instructor at the Jufré Cycling school, who has participated in the March in previous editions, “When I was 16 years old, I already signed up”. Molas highlighted the quality of the test, and the good experience both on a personal and sporting level that involved participating. It also applauds the good reception it has, increasingly, among female cyclists, who consider that they have to feel challenged to participate. “Luckily more and more girls are cycling and participating in this type of event”.
Both Carles Molera, representing the Vic-ETB Swimming Club, and Titi Roca, Sports Councilor of the Vic City Council, thanked Josep Jufré’s sports and social work at the head of the organization of the March, but also from the Jufré Cycling cycling school, “a unique project”, according to Roca. The Barcelona Provincial Council, the Vic City Council, Osona Turismo and Osoning collaborate with the Jufré Riuprimer Cycling Tour.
