Pixar has plans to release a new short, and this time they want to tell us more about Carl Fredricksen. The protagonist of up returns with a very emotional story under the name of Dug Days: Carl’s Date for Disney +. The plot is centered on his first date after the death of his wife, Ellie, whom we already met in the original 2009 film.
Disney+ and Pixar’s Carl’s Date gives us a glimpse into Carl’s life after the events of Up. In it, the old man ends up reluctantly agreeing to a date with a friend. However, he is faced with the confusion of what it is like to date today. Fortunately, he will be met with the help of the good old Dug, who steps in to calm his nerves and give him advice on how to make friends as a dog.
Dug Days has several shorts behind it. In them, we see the iconic dog from Disney and Pixar’s Up on different adventures. Although it deals with everyday events, like going out into the backyard, Dug’s distorted vision allows us to experience exciting events that unfold before the eyes of everyone’s favorite talking furry.
The Pixar short film Dug Days: Carl’s Date will be published on Disney+ this coming February 10, 2023. In the announcement, in addition to presenting us with a piece of the short, it also brings together the next and biggest releases on the platform. From Loki, through Peter Pan and Wendy, and even The Mandalorian.
More details about Dug Days: Carl’s Date from Pixar and Disney+
One of the most exciting details confirmed by Bob Peterson – co-director and writer of Up – is that the original voice of Carl Fredricksen, Ed Asner, will be present in the short. Although Ed Asner sadly passed away in August 2021, it appears that Dug Days: Carl’s Date has been in development at Pixar for some time. For this, the actor would have had the opportunity to record one last episode of Dug Days.
And YES, the great Ed Asner recorded new lines for this episode before he passed away. He did an incredible job,” says Bob Peterson in a tweet from his official account.
To refresh your memory after so many years, the Up! from Pixar initially presents us with the story of Carl Fredricksen and Ellie. Both characters live one of the most precious love stories in the history of cinema. Sadly, Ellie passes away, leaving Carl alone in the world. From here, the adventures we already know unfold, with the iconic house of balloons floating to Paradise Falls.
