When Zack Snyder’s Justice League – 82% was launched on HBO Max, it was reported that in some places the site had gone down due to so much demand, and although Samba TV reports indicated that it was not the biggest success of the platform, recent reports indicate that it was a resounding success of sales of Blu-rays and DVDs, demonstrating the great love fans have for the film and the director.
But that his fans are loyal is nothing new, they have been waiting for months for a response from Warner about the potential sequels that we could glimpse at the end of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which would be part of a separate universe from DC Extended Universe (DCEU), the SnyderVerse.
Although the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderVerse has been trending on several occasions, the only official statement on the subject was given by Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff, who told Variety in March that Zack Snyder’s Justice League It was the end of his collaborations with the director.
However, now Geekosity reports that the bestsellers of Blu-rays and DVDs increase the chances that the SnyderVerse will be restored as fans want. For a long time the arrival of the Justice League Snyder cut was a simple rumor, and alongside that rumor was another that said it would never see the light of day. We are still waiting for an official confirmation, but everything indicates that we should wait; Meanwhile, the physical sales and what was said by Geekosity give some hope to the most loyal fans.
Another hope for fans is that the Warner Bros. merger with Discovery, announced in May this year, will mean something good for the SnyderVerse. Since the future merger became known, rumors began to emerge about the restoration of the SnyderVerse, and even Zack Snyder (300 – 60%, Watchmen, The Watchers – 65%, The Man of Steel – 55%) suggested in an interview with him YouTube channel Tyrone Magnus who saw hope in it:
I haven’t heard from them [Warner Bros.]. After I released the movie, I have not received a phone call. […] The only communication was Ann’s article [Sarnoff] after the release of the tape, but that was not directly for me, but for the people. So I do not know. I’m watching, let’s see what happens with Discovery.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League ended with Steppenwolf’s defeat at the hands of superheroes, but before that we got to see Darkseid threaten to invade Earth. In one of the final scenes we also saw what would happen after the invasion of the alien tyrant: a post-apocalyptic future where Batman allied with several of his enemies to try to save the world from destruction.
Snyder’s departure from Justice League prompted studio and director Joss Whedon (Avengers: Age of Ultron – 75%, Much Noise and Few Nuts – 84%, The Avengers – 92%) will carry out a lot of modifications, as long as the franchise takes a very different path from that envisioned by Zack Snyder. In the current DCEU, Justice League is canon and Zack Snyder’s Justice League is not, but the difference between the two versions is very big; the film released in 2017 was a failure at the box office and critics were very harsh on it, while the one in 2021 was a success with the audience, sales in physical format and the critics and fans had mostly positive reviews.
