Spanish rider Adrián Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) won his first WorldSSP300 Championship title this Saturday after the appointment held at the Autódromo Internacional del Algarve.
With five victories and seven places on the podium, Huertas became the Supersport 300 world champion after being challenged by Tom Booth-Amos (Fusport-RT Motorsports by SKM Kawasaki) and dethroning his teammate Jeffrey Buis, preventing him from being the first consecutive champion in WorldSSP300.
After starting his career at the Red Bull Rookies Cup and the European Talent Cup in 2018 and 2019, he moved on to the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship in 2020. He concluded his first season in 17th place with 43 points. For the 2021 season, it was switched to the MTM Kawasaki team, the team that won the 2020 WorldSSP300 Championship and also scored seven victories throughout the season.
Huertas began his second season at the top by obtaining his first victory in the category in Carrera 1 de Aragón. Then he got five wins during the season, becoming the first driver with five wins in the same course in Race 2 at Magny-Cours.
With a 56-point advantage over his closest competitor Jeffrey Buis, Adrián Huertas becomes the fourth WorldSSP300 Spanish Champion, as Spain continues to dominate the class with four titles in five seasons, only stopped by Dutchman Jeffrey Buis in 2020.
“I think this is compensation because I finally managed to be on the podium and win the Championship. I am very happy to thank my whole team, Ludo from MTM, Fabien from Kawasaki, because they gave me the support I needed to become a WorldSSP300 Champion, “said Huertas.
“Without their help, it would not have been possible to be world champion, so I am very happy for everyone, for my mother, for my father, because they have done many things to be here and finally, hard work pays off so we can all be rewarded. I am very happy and I want to continue working and continue dreaming, “he said.
