Bruno Hortelano, the 2016 European 200-meter champion, broke this Monday in Andorra, with a mark of 15.42, the Spanish record for the 150-meter test.
Hortelano improved the previous national record, which was in possession since 1997 by Alfonso Borreguero with 15.64, and Francisco Julián Sarmaniego, with 15.5 manuals since 1990.
At the end of the test, Bruno Hortelano was more than satisfied by some mixed feelings after almost a year without competing. “Apart from being happy for the brand, I am satisfied to have been able to run the race in the way I was looking for,” he said.
“I have been able to stay within my goal, which was to be present, that is, I was at the starting line without contemplating the finish line and I have rarely done this. Today has gone well for me and in the race a thought came to me and I thought: ‘Be here now’, ‘I’m here now’. Someone special told me before the race let yourself flow and I have flowed ”, he added.
Bruno Hortelano recovers competitive sensations. “The bodily and mental sensations have been what they had to be. If we have learned something this year, it is to be patient on the one hand and on the other to have flexibility in the agenda. Confinement has helped me because in such an uncertain scenario for everyone this race I have achieved my goal of being present ”. His comeback with a national record in 150 meters is a shot. “
“This is why I live, to compete. I hadn’t competed in so long that it had been all training and investment. As my coach says: ‘Money in the bank’. I’ve finally gotten something out of this, ”he added.
Regarding upcoming races, Hortelano bets on the philosophy of going ‘match by match’. “My goal was the race is here and now I will return to Barcelona, tomorrow I will have to warm up, the day after tomorrow I will physio and then we will see because I don’t know what race I will do. It is a very atypical season and the races are coming out like mushrooms, out of nowhere. Mind you, I feel like I am maintaining a good inner peace and I hope to maintain it throughout the year, “he said.
Nor does he want to talk about the 2021 Olympic event in Tokyo: “My goal is to be here and now. Deep down I am ambitious and I have very ambitious dreams and I am going to go all out for them. Of course, the less you obsess about getting there, it is the best option precisely to get there ”.
Regarding the record, Bruno Hortelano was aware that this Monday he had a good opportunity to beat it. “Based on my training sessions, I knew I was in very good shape. I am lighter than ever. I have trained with more intensity and less volume and I am more rested in the bones and in the joints. I knew I had a very good option to make a mark ”, he declared.
