15 minutes. The United States (USA) reached this Friday the figure of 1,600,481 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 95,886 deaths.
This balance, released at 20:00 local time (00:00 GMT on Saturday), is 25,417 more infections than Thursday and 1,225 new deaths.
The state of New York remains the great epicenter of the pandemic in the United States with 358,154 confirmed cases and 28,853 deaths, a figure similar to that of Spain and only below the United Kingdom and Italy.
In New York City alone, 21,086 people lost.
New York is followed by neighboring New Jersey with 152,579 confirmed cases and 10,985 deaths, the state of Illinois, with 105,444 infections and 4,715 deaths, and Massachusetts, which reported 90,889 positive for coronavirus and 6,228 deaths.
Other states with large numbers of deaths are Michigan (5,158), Pennsylvania (5,010), California (3,660), and Connecticut, with 3,637.
The provisional balance of deaths is close to the initial estimates of the White House, which projected at best between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths. President Donald Trump, for his part, calculated between 50,000 and 60,000 deceased.
Since then, Trump has repeatedly raised his forecast to acknowledge that the final figure will likely be between 100,000 and 110,000 dead.
The Institute of Health Metrics and Assessments (IHME) at the University of Washington estimates that by early August the crisis will have left more than 143,000 deaths in the United States.
