The Uruguayan Diego Rolán converted a penalty in minute 15 to give this Tuesday to Juárez FC a 1-0 victory over San Luis, in an early game of the fourteenth day of the Apertura of Mexican football. Rolán resolved a duel with few arrivals in which the Juárez of Brazilian coach Ricardo Ferretti added his fourth win in 11 days and climbed from fourteenth to eleventh with three wins, two draws, five losses and 11 points.
In the first half the two teams were neutralized until Rolán took the penalty and gave the home team an advantage that they never lost. Juárez defended with order and avoided the arrivals of San Luis, who in the initial half had only one dangerous play, missed by the Argentine Germán Berterame, who let go of the tie in the 45th minute.
For the second part, those of Ferretti suffered a blow, the expulsion for rough play of Paraguayan Víctor Velázquez, who left his team with 10 men on the grass. Ferretti, who was honored at the start of the game for 30 years as a coach in the First Division, commanded his team to prioritize defense. He backed down and bet to keep the upper hand, which he succeeded.
San Luis had a good dangerous play in 73 when Argentine Andrés Vombergar shot his head and was stopped by goalkeeper Hugo González. For his part, Juárez was close to extending the advantage in an oversight of the San Luis brand; in 90 the Mexican José Esquivel stepped on the area with everything in favor, but defined poorly.
The victory of Juárez confirmed the resurrection of the team that on the 10th of this month defeated the champion Cruz Azul 2-0 and last Saturday beat León in their own stadium by 0-1. San Luis, the Atlético de Madrid branch, dropped to seventh place with three wins, four draws, two losses and 13 points. The Apertura will have another advance match this Wednesday, on the eleventh day, between Monterrey under coach Javier Aguirre and Toluca. Starting on Thursday, date 10 will be played with the matches Pachuca-Necaxa, Puebla Cruz Azul, Tijuana-Mazatlán, Atlas-León, Tigres UANL-Pumas UNAM, América-Guadalajara, Toluca-San Luis and Santo Laguna Monterrey. Juárez-Querétaro will be postponed to October 8.
