Federal Security Secretary Alfonso Durazo said that Yépez would be transferred in the next few hours to the Altiplano maximum security prison and will answer to a judge for “organized crime and fuel theft.”
As early as March, Sophia Huett, Guanajuato’s state security commissioner, had declared that “more than 80%” of the cartel was “disjointed.”
Last June, the mother, sister and cousin of “El Marro” were arrested and placed in preventive detention.
The group of Santa Rosa de Lima
In recent years, the Santa Rosa de Lima group has been in a dispute with the Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) cartel over fuel theft in the Guanajuato “Bermuda Triangle”.
A few weeks ago El Marro appeared visibly excited in a video published after the arrest of his relatives.
The pipelines of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) that transport fuel throughout the country pass through the diagonal formed by the fifteen municipalities in this area.
“Santa Rosa de Lima is one of the most profitable fuel extraction and theft organizations,” security analyst Víctor Sánchez explained to BBC Mundo last year.
at the local level it is a powerful organization, with control of the area thanks to networks of corruption and roots with the communities that protect them, “says the researcher.” data-reactid = “48”> “This is not a gigantic organization, but it is at the local level it is a powerful organization, with control of the area thanks to networks of corruption and roots with the communities that protect them, “says the researcher.
Although it calls itself a “cartel,” it is not strictly speaking, Sánchez said, since it is a single criminal gang whose power is not equated with the great “huachicoleros” such as the CJNG, Los Zetas or the Sinaloa cartel.
The name of Santa Rosa de Lima was adopted by a small town in the territory that dominates the group, which includes the surroundings of the cities of Salamanca, Celaya, León and Guanajuato.

Little by little, especially in this last year, the authorities tightened the fence until finally finding his capture.
Her mother, sister, and cousin were arrested last June and placed on remand. After the arrest, El Marro appeared in a video, practically crying, where he appreciated the support of his followers.
Many interpreted this gesture as proof that he was more cornered than ever.
