San Juan, Aug 11 (EFE) .- The music video for “Con Calma”, by reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee and his Canadian colleague Snow, surpassed 2,000 million views on YouTube, marking the seventh time that a video of the Puerto Rican as a soloist, Guest artist or collaborator reaches that figure on said platform.
“Transcending different cultures in my language and representing it has been the mission since the beginning of my career. There is no greater satisfaction than to continue with my legacy and continue in music,” Daddy Yankee said in a press release released this Tuesday by their representatives.
The music video for “Con Calma” premiered on YouTube on January 23, 2019.
Since then, it has been at the top of YouTube’s “Top Songs” list globally for six weeks, averaging more than 1.5 million views per day this year.
In addition, Daddy Yankee is the Latin artist with the most subscribers on YouTube, surpassing 30.6 million.
“Congratulations, boss! It’s amazing to see you breaking it on YouTube with ‘Con Calma’ reaching 2 billion views and becoming the Latin artist with the most subscribers on our platform,” said Sandra Jiménez, leader of music associations in Latin America of YouTube, in the statement.
“Your success on YouTube is a testament to your incredible musical talent, high commitment to fans, and YouTube’s unique ability to connect music artists with fans around the world,” Jiménez added in the text.
The music video for “Con Calma” features an animated version of Daddy Yankee – known to his fans as “Sikiri” – dancing with a group of dancers.
In turn, the video was filmed in Los Angeles and Canada by director Marlon Peña.
With the audiovisual proposal, Daddy Yankee wanted to go back to his adolescence to create “a unity between the past and the present with the energy and freshness that music and dance carried in those times”.
“Con Calma” is inspired by the song “Informer” (1992), from Snow’s repertoire, which came to occupy the first position of the Hot 100 list of Billboard magazine.
On the Billboard charts, “Con Calma” remained at the top eight non-consecutive weeks on the Latin Airplay chart beginning March 16, 2019 and 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart for 14 consecutive weeks from May 4 through on August 3, 2019.
This new version is a joint composition of Raymond Ayala (Daddy Yankee) and Darrin Kenneth O’Brien (Snow).
The production was in charge of Juan and Oscar Salinas (Play & Skills), with the co-production of David “Scott Summers” Macias and Juan G. Rivera “Gaby Music”.
The other music videos in which Daddy Yankee appears as a soloist, guest artist or collaborator and that have reached 2,000 million views on YouTube are “Despacito” with Luis Fonsi, “Limbo”, “China” with Anuel AA, Karol G, Ozuna and J Balvin, “Dura”, “Andas en mi cabeza” with Chino and Nacho, and “Shaky Shaky”.
