Zimbabwe’s agriculture minister Perrance Shiri passed away at the age of 65 on Wednesday July 29. According to media reports, he died of Covid-19.

The sad news was announced on Wednesday by the president of the Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa. “I am deeply saddened to inform the nation of the passing of Agriculture Minister General Perrance Shiri, a longtime friend and colleague,” he wrote on Twitter. The politician was 65 years old.
The head of state did not specify the cause of death, but media reports said the minister died on coronavirus. The NewsDay newspaper also reports that General Perrance Shiri’s driver succumbed to the Covid-19 last weekend. After being exposed to the disease, the minister was hospitalized.
Perrance Shiri was “a true patriot”
The President of Zimbabwe paid tribute to “a true patriot who dedicated his life to the liberation, independence and service of his country”.
The coronavirus has already affected 2,817 people in the country. Forty sick people died and 604 were declared cured. A surge in the number of cases recently forced the government to revert to strong measures after an easing.
