The mayor of Valdepeñas, Jesus Martin, announced this Tuesday the cancellation of the schedule for the Harvest and Wine Festivities, scheduled for early September with control of capacity and security measures.
At a press conference, Martín recalled that on August 22, the Government of Castilla-La Mancha published a decree with new “anti-Covid” measures, in which popular festivals were prohibited, but not activities that are regulated with limited capacity and following all security protocols.
“The decree does not condition or coerce any of the scheduled activities, which is why it could be maintained, but in order for the call to be identified as Wine Festivities, which is how it has penetrated the public, we have chosen to nullify the program ”, explained the municipal councilor.
In addition, he stressed that “the Wine Festivities that never were are called off, since the name was maintained to maintain the tradition, although they never were because there was no stage, no concerts or calls in the Plaza de España.”
However, the mayor has advanced that the Valdepeñas City Council will maintain its support for local artists, as reflected in the program through performances in different spaces, following established safety regulations such as distance, use of a mask and limited capacity, starting next October.
What will remain of the Wine Festivals is the institutional act, which will be limited exclusively to the delivery of recognitions, with a toast by the poet Luis Antonio de Villena and without official speeches.
On the other hand, because it is allowed by the regional decree and by the concession that is signed with the businessman of the bullring, The bullfighting celebration already agreed for its broadcast in Castilla-La Mancha Media will be maintained (CMM).
Likewise, the religious acts and the floral offering will be maintained inside the Church of La Asunción to the patron saint of the town, La Virgen de Consolación, although the traditional procession of September 8 is canceled with which the great week of Valdepeñas concludes .
