While many features introduced in Hearth & Home have already been revealed by the development team in the Steam community area and on social media, not even Odin has discovered some of the new features that this update contains, including something dark and mysterious that seems to be spreading across the plains.
Builders and architects are sure to toast the gods, as a host of new stone and dark wood building pieces will be available to players at launch. Whether it’s dark wood beams and posts decorated with intricate Viking ornaments, a new type of roof and dark wood trim, or a stone throne for those who rule with an iron fist, the building system of Valheim will now offer an expanded selection of pieces to spark the imagination of players as they build their settlements.
There are also some new features for our Lox friends that have been highly requested by the community, now players can name their pets as they like to strike fear into the hearts of their enemies! Map sharing between players, planting additional tree types, as well as a new destroyer extension that can remove items and ultimately solve Valheim’s ocean pollution issues have also been implemented.
As the name suggests, the essence of the Hearth & Home content is the new cooking and building features. New kitchen extensions, from spicers, butcher tables to pots and pans, accompany a pantry of new recipes for the Vikings to sink their teeth into. Venison, wolf and wild boar meat, jerky and skewers have been introduced, along with muckshakes, onions, and onion soup, while players can now cool off after a hard day of adventuring with delicious eye cream!
The new recipes complement the redesigned food system that offers players more interesting options with an improved health and stamina system that allows them to adjust their Viking diet to suit their play style.
The new Crystal Battle Ax, Bone Tower Shield, Iron Shield and Silver Knife have also been added to the afterlife arsenal along with balance adjustments to bows and battle axes that make different play styles are more viable and fun. Changes to shields and lockdown mechanics add more depth to combat and will make battles even more epic for Bragi’s skalds to sing about!
Released on Steam Early Access in February this year, Valheim has been an instant hit as players flocked to settle in the afterlife and fight together against the greatest creatures of Norse mythology. The game was initially developed by just five people and has managed to sell more than seven million copies in less than two months and reach a peak of more than 500,000 simultaneous players, making it the fifth game to reach this incredible mark in the history of Steam.
“As the first major update, we wanted Hearth & Home to really expand the Valheim experience and make the main game richer and more complex, while also adding new content for players to come back and explore.” said Henrik Törnqvist, co-founder of Iron Gate. “While it has taken a little longer than anticipated to make sure it is the quality that people expect, we have listened to our community in their hands.”
Albert Säfström, CEO of Coffee Stain Publishing added: “Much of the joy of Valheim is exploring and discovering the world and it is a great feeling to finally be able to show what the team has been working on.
We also want to thank the community for their support and patience since launch. Skål!
Valheim is available for 19.99 Euros | USD on Steam Early Access for PC and Linux, and is currently 20% off until Sunday, September 19 at 7:00 pm Central European Time | 10:00 am Pacific time.
