What makes the Apple Watch SE different from the Apple Watch Series 6?

Apple has changed its strategy and has introduced two new Apple Watch models, the Series 6 and the SE. Apple had only used the SE name in the iPhone range, and it has always corresponded with an affordable and sufficient device for a large number of users.

The Apple Watch SE is just that. Apple has chosen to launch a model that It does not have all the specifications of the Series 6, but it is much more affordable. Let’s analyze the differences.

Apple Watch SE vs Apple Watch Series 6

Both Apple Watch models feature the same exterior design, with a large screen that reaches almost to the edges and two sizes: 40 mm and 44 mm. But it’s not the only way they are alike.

Apple Watch SE and Series 6 share features like always-on altimeter, compass, fall detection, notifications of high or low heart rate, irregular rhythm warning, noise app and they are waterproof up to 50 meters.

But there are also several main differences:

Materials and colors

Since the Apple Watch SE is a model that aims to be affordable, the more premium materials are only available on the Series 6. The Apple Watch Series 6 is available in aluminum, stainless steel and titanium. Of course, the size of the box is identical in both.

On the other hand we have a big difference in colors:

Apple Watch Series 6: Silver, Space Gray, Gold, Blue and Red (aluminum), Silver, Graphite and Gold (steel), Titanium and Space Black (titanium).
Apple Watch SE: Silver, Space Gray and Gold (aluminum).

He Apple Watch SE does not include the last two sensors that Apple has introducedWe have neither the blood oxygen sensor nor the electrical heart rate sensor (electrocardiogram). The rest of the sensors are the same as those found in the Series 6, such as the optical heart rate sensor.

He Apple Watch Series 6 features the new S6 processor, up to 20% faster than the S5, with the W3 wireless chip and the ultra-wideband U1 chip, important to locate the device more easily.

He Apple Watch SE has an older processor, the same S5 Apple Watch Series 5. It also has the W3 wireless processor but lacks the U1.

A very important difference between both devices, the Apple Watch SE is very cheap. Especially if we want the version with cellular connection, since it costs just 50 euros more than the base model:

Apple Watch Series 6. GPS: from 429 euros. GPS + Cellular: from 529 euros.
Apple Watch SE. GPS: from 299 euros. GPS + Cellular: from 349 euros.
