The deadline for the Internal rents service (IRS) turn in the second stimulus check is January 15, however some people will have to wait weeks or months to receive their money.

In the event of receiving less money or claiming the missing money on your stimulus check, the IRS has a method to claim the missing money that will be through the Recovery Refund Credit.

So far the IRS and the U.S. Department of the Treasury have jointly sent most of the second stimulus checks through direct deposit, paper checks and prepaid debit cards, However you can miss up to 20 percent of the payments to be made.

It is not always clear how much money the IRS may owe in the event of an error. However, you could know how much money you could receive according to your characteristics and the number of members of your family.

What could cause an incomplete shipment?

You should check if you are missing $ 500 dollars assigned by each of your dependent children or you have defaulted on child support.
If you are a U.S. citizen abroad or live in a U.S. territory and you didn’t receive a check as you expected, you may also need to read the rules. What to do if you have lost your stimulus check?

If you have lost your refund check you should start a refund trace by calling 800-829-1954 and use the menu or speak to an agent. If you have filed a tax return with your partner, you will not be able to initiate a trace using the automated systems. During the first stimulus check, people downloaded Form 3911, the Taxpayer Refund Statement, or the IRS can send you a Form 3911 to start the replacement process.

Your claim in case of reimbursement for loss could be processed if the check was not cashed, so you will receive a replacement check after you cancel the original check. If the refund check was cashed, the Office of the Fiscal Service (BFS) will provide you with a claim packet that includes a copy of the cashed check. You will need to follow the instructions to complete the claim package. BFS will review your claim and the signature on the canceled check before determining if they can issue a replacement check. The BFS investigation could take up to six weeks to complete.

However, the deadline to issue a new stimulus check is January 15, if you cannot perform any of the above steps, you must claim your missing money during the 2020 tax return process as a Recovery Refund Credit.
