75% of sales were Blu-ray and 38% of total sales were in 4K format, which means that 37% were normal Blu-ray sales and 25% were DVDs. In addition to the four-hour film, a collection of all three Snyder films was sold in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU): Man of Steel – 55%, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice – 27% and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which ranked 14th in sales.
This director’s cut is a unique case in the history of cinema, as pressure from fans on social media and at conventions convinced a studio to put up money to finish a movie made four years ago. After the death of his daughter, Snyder left the production of Justice League – 41% and was replaced by Joss Whedon, who was in charge of remaking a large part of it.
As reported by Samba TV, Zack Snyder’s Justice League wasn’t as successful on HBO Max as Wonder Woman 1984 – 76%, Godzilla vs. Kong – 85% and Mortal Kombat – 74%, but the sales of Blu-rays and DVDs is very good, we already knew that thanks to Amazon USA, where it was in first place. In digital format it is not possible to acquire it, since it is an exclusive production of HBO Max, a streaming service that has already been available in Latin America for a few months.
We don’t know what the future of the SnyderVerse will be, but fans have not given up and continue to push from time to time on social media for the sequels to be approved. Zack Snyder’s Justice League, with the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderVerse they intend to obtain the same result as with the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, which was trending several times between 2017 and 2020 before it was officially announced that the tape would reach HBO Max.
According to what the CEO of Warner said, Ann sarnoff, in an interview with Variety six months ago, the DC projects that are in development no longer have anything to do with Snyder and his version of the cinematic universe. We know that after the box office failure of League of Justice in 2017 Warner Bros. wanted to get as far away from Snyder as they could. The result was that Aquaman – 73% was a spectacular box office success, and to date is the highest grossing DC Comics film in its history; with Shazam! – 88% and Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of a Harley Quinn – 75% the numbers at the box office weren’t very good, but they got critical approval.
A non-DCEU project was also a total success, Joker – 91% from Todd Philips, which grossed more than $ 1 billion at the global box office. At these numbers Snyder’s movies can’t rival, but with sales of Blu-rays and DVDs, coupled with views on HBO Max, there may still be hope for SnyderVerse.
On the other hand, the DCEU advances with the sequels of Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman 1984, as well as with new projects such as Black Adam and the HBO Max series and films of Peacemaker, Batgirl and Black Canary, among others. The next franchise premiere will be Black Adam in July 2022.
