LaLiga and Sorare, a fantasy football company, announced an agreement whereby the competition will be the first of the five great European football players to reach an agreement to launch non-fungible tokens (NFTs), digital assets that fans can play and trade with.
These are authenticated through ‘blockchain’ technology, consisting of an unalterable record of unique digital content that cannot be copied without losing its authenticity and that is verifiable.
In this way, fans will be able to trade with digital cards of LaLiga footballers, allowing the tournament and its clubs to expand their brand internationally and reach new audiences, including lovers of the crypto world in the United States and Asia.
“We are delighted to announce this partnership after more than a year exploring the world of NFT. We are always looking for new ways to act and identify with fans around the world,” he said. Oscar Mayo, Executive Director of LaLiga.
“We are always looking for ways to be closer to fans around the world, not just in Spain. It’s a new way to be closer to fans around the world and continue to expand the following of the league, to be every more and more global, “he added.
Joining him were ex-footballers Patrick Kluivert and Samuel Eto’o as well as Sorare CEO Nicolas Julia, who explained: “The fans are part of the game in recent times. In our game when you buy a card it is yours. You can sell, buy. We can look for new stars when they are young. A strategy. It can be changed, you can keep it on your property. “
