Secret Wars’ could be divided into two parts

Avengers: Secret Wars could be presented in two parts. The production that will close phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was announced a few months ago as a single film. The change, if confirmed, would extend that stage of the franchise until the end of 2026, the year in which the film is scheduled to be released, or towards the beginning of 2027.

This rumor occurs a few days after the premiere of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the film in which Kang The Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) will be formally introduced. Why is this aspect relevant? The character is the main villain of the Multiverse Saga. His presence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe will extend at least until Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

The possibility that Avengers: Secret Wars is divided into two installments was learned through Marvel Studios Spoilers, an insider who shared the leak via Reddit. In case the idea is confirmed, the closure of the Multiverse Saga would occur with a trilogy about The Avengers.

Avengers: Secret Wars: in two parts?

According to insider Marvel Studios Spoilers, “there are very early talks about splitting Secret Wars into two parts.” In his newsletter there is no further detail about it. If the sense that has been given to the Avengers saga is reviewed, the possibility seems coherent.

The installments of The Avengers have been characterized by taking time to develop their story. Based on that, it is not unreasonable to think that it is necessary to extend Avengers: Secret Wars in two parts. It’s not just about the most important stretch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, by then. It also carries with it a narrative challenge of enormous dimensions: a large number of superheroes are expected to be integrated.

These characters have been introduced in series and movies that the viewer has already been able to see and will continue to be added in the following productions that make up the rest of phase 5 and 6. What does this imply? There are dozens of projects that will influence Avengers: Secret Wars and its duration.

The combination of stories

Through these projects, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will see how different sagas are integrated. During the events of Avengers: Endgame, the most relevant episode in this narrative so far, there were natural relationships between the characters and the stories. This branching will eventually lead to more mutants and The Fantastic Four in phase 5 and 6.

It is interpreted that the mixture of these sagas will require time. What happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home can be an example. In this production different historical moments were related, with three adaptations of Peter Parker. Avengers: Secret Wars is anticipated as a much more ambitious project. Both because of the number of characters involved that there may be and because of the development of the Multiverse. After the events of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it is likely that the various timelines have collapsed. The Avengers will have to emerge no longer with the aim of saving the Earth, but to avenge all the ramifications of history.

This project was confirmed during Comic-Con 2022. At that time, Avengers: Secret Wars was presented as the end of phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its premiere, after a rescheduling, is scheduled for May 1, 2026. In the event that its division into two parts is confirmed, perhaps this film can reach theaters at the end of that year or at the beginning of 2027. In the meantime, it’s just a possibility.
